September 26, 2017 by Kristy Wenz

#IFBC17 is finally upon us! We’re looking forward to meeting all of you in Sacramento. Attendees: Make sure to check out the brief reminders at the close of this post.

Get Your Hashtag On – Live Food & Wine Blogging

Taking place Saturday, September 30 from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., Live Food & Wine Blogging is one of the premier experiences of the IFBC. Attendees will have the opportunity to try different food and drink products in small-group encounters over a 50-minute period, all the while live blogging, Tweeting, and using other social media platforms in real time.

A 5-minute timer begins the session with different sponsors at each Live Blogging table. The sponsors will introduce what they are serving or pouring to attendees. As the seconds pass by, bloggers and attendees will share their thoughts on the product via live blog posts, or social media blasts. Bloggers can create one blog post published at the end of the session while taking notes via social media, use a WordPress Live Blog Plugin, or even publish multiple posts in 50 minutes, one about each sample.

No matter how you decide to document the event, Tweets will be flying so try and keep up! And don’t forget to tag the sponsor and follow along with #IFBC17.

Join Us For An Interactive Styling Session with Instagram’s Hot Hashtag – The Avocado!

September 25, 2017 by Kristy Wenz

#IFBC17 begins Thursday with two great excursions! If you haven’t registered for the conference yet, don’t miss out.

The below post comes to us from IFBC17 sponsor, Avocados from Chile, whom you will be able to meet September 29 – October 1 at the IFBC.

There are food trends, food fads, foodie followings and then there is the avocado. Some have dubbed the humble avocado “The Oprah of Instagram”, and with over 6.5 million posts using #avocado, we can see why!

As food bloggers, you have likely taken your fair share of avocado toast or guacamole photos for that perfect Instagram moment, but if you are looking to elevate your #avocado game this session is for you!

Join us for our Discovery Session on Saturday September 30 from 2:15 to 3:15, where we’ll explore Styling for Social – How to Slice, Style and Solve your Trickiest Food Styling Challenges. California food Blogger Lisa Lin of Healthy Nibbles & Bits will have you roll up your sleeves for this interactive session, where we’ll introduce some new ways to style your avocado shots.

Throughout the session, you’ll learn how to get your avo-toast looking as delicious in your blog photos as you and your readers know it tastes. Lisa will discuss her secrets for some common food styling stumps, offering tips and tested solutions.

What avocado styling tips do you need help with? If you have styling questions or want to request an avocado recipe for us to share, tweet us @avocados using the hashtag #IFBCavocados and we’ll answer your questions during our time together.

September 22, 2017 by Kristy Wenz

#IFBC17 is coming fast! If you haven’t registered for the conference yet, don’t miss out.

The below post comes to us from IFBC17 sponsor, Lindsay, whom you will be able to meet September 29 – October 1 at the IFBC.

Calling all #IFBC17 Bloggers!

Lindsay will be serving up its famous Manzanilla Michelada on Friday, September 29th from 4:15 to 6:30 p.m. (during the Expo, Taste of Sacramento & Gift Suite). Please stop by and customize your Michelada with one (or more) of our Lindsay Party Picks!

For a little sneak peak and to whet your appetite, here’s the recipe:

Ingredients:

• 6 oz. Bloody Mary Mix
• Tabasco or your favorite hot sauce
• Lemon wedge
• Light beer (we’re using Corona)
• Lindsay Party Picks (any kind!)

Directions:

Fill a highball glass to the top with ice. Add Bloody Mary Mix about halfway up the glass. Add a dash of hot sauce and a squeeze of lemon juice. Give a quick stir.

Fill to the top with light beer. Garnish with your favorite Lindsay Party Picks, like our Queen olives stuffed with red pepper or our spicy veggie blend.

Cheers!

Live Demo for Google Analytics at IFBC

September 21, 2017 by Kristy Wenz

Cort Tafoya is a Google Analytics and SEO expert. His website is ClearMarketingAnalytics.com and he’ll be sharing his Google Analytics expertise with us on Saturday, September 30 at #IFBC17. If you’re looking to begin using Google Analytics, or wanting to learn how to make it work better for your blog, check out his session! Not yet registered? Click here.

Roughly six years ago I got my first ever login to a web analytics software. It was for a comedy site I was running and I wanted to know more about how we were doing.

Pageviews, total visitors, number of return visitors, our sources of traffic, events taking place on the website – all of these metrics held real value to the company. I jumped right into our top traffic sources and our most viewed content and what I learned helped define our editorial calendar and content distribution strategy for the next two years!

From that experience to now, web analytics has been a big part of what I do. As a digital marketing consultant I help companies employ tactics to build targeted web traffic, and then measure how that web traffic performs. Google Analytics is my go to web tracking software of choice. From its release until now dozens of new features have been added, addressing numerous pain points for bloggers, e-commerce companies, content sites and more.

With Google Analytics you can learn what city your visitors come from, what device they’re using, what page they landed on when first visiting your site, and what page they exited from. You can learn what source brought them to you – from Facebook and Twitter to Google or Bing and every referral website in between. With Google Analytics you can also track how many of these visitors subscribe to your newsletter, share your content on social media, download documents or play videos.

Lastly, from a user experience standpoint, Google Analytics provides everything you need to get information automatically. You can setup, share and export reports. You can even set automatic alerts that go to your phone if your content goes viral, or if your website goes down.

On September 30th at the International Food Blogger Conference I’ll be talking about these Google Analytics features and much more, providing a live overview of the software using Google Analytics’ free demo account. Once you’re equipped with the skills to find real insights about your data, taking the next steps and acting on that data will be easy.

All of those attending will be encouraged to access this same, free demo account, and follow along with me during the presentation. For people relatively new or unfamiliar with Google Analytics, this session will be incredibly valuable, and is sure to help you view your data in a completely new light.

Build a Better Blog with WordPress

September 20, 2017 by Kristy Wenz

The post below is brought to us by #IFBC17 sponsor, WordPress.com. Join us next week on September 29-30 in Sacramento and say hello to our friends from WordPress! There’s still time to register and take part in this outstanding food blogging event. Register today.

Are you a Foodie, with a capital “F”? Do you consider yourself a food connoisseur and are now just a tad insulted that we would even dare to use the term “Foodie,” capitalized or not?

No matter your thoughts on the art of food appreciation, WordPress.com is here for you! Whether you’re looking to share your amazing family recipes, the awesome new restaurants you’ve found in your hometown, or the exotic foods you’ve encountered in your travels, WordPress.com can help you build your perfect site. We offer pricing and plans for any budget, from free personal blogs to fully customized websites for businesses big and small.

The power of WordPress.com is its scalability. If you’re a newbie and have never built a website before, we offer a plethora of pre-installed web publishing tools, so you can sign up and get started right away. Write blog posts, add photos, share to social media — it’s all there for you. And as your personal brand grows, WordPress.com will be right there to grow with you. For the veteran blogger, the WordPress.com Business Plan offers the option to install third-party themes and plugins, giving you the full customization that professional sites require.

If you’re looking to build your first website, WordPress.com is a great place to start from scratch. And if you already have your site built on another platform and are looking for a bit more customization and scalability, you can transfer your site from other providers, as well.

WordPress.com is a proud sponsor of the 2017 International Food Blogger Conference. If you have any questions about WordPress.com or would just like to learn more about us, Anne and Dennis will be at the expo Friday afternoon. Just look for the giant WordPress.com sign and logo!
