This One Fun Idea Can Help Generate Leads Overnight

April 9, 2021 by Sarah Wohlner

The IFBC21 Website + SEO Virtual Summit took place on March 18, 2021. Tai Goodwin, AKA The Quiz Queen, showed us how to increase our lead generation with quizzes. Read on to learn how to create an effective quiz and how you might see success. *This is a quick summary of her talk. You can view the full video session with examples by registering now.*

What’s the one thing? Quizzes!!

Quizzes can help you collect new emails, find out what and how to promote, segment your audience, get to know your audience and so much more! So, how do you create effective quizzes that generate leads? Follow these 6 steps from The Quiz Queen:

1. Set your goal.

Why are you using a quiz? Do you want to promote something? Do you want to segment your audience?

2. Choose your avatar.

Who are you talking to? The quiz will be different depending on your audience. Think about the following:

  • Gender
  • Age
  • Profession
  • Location
  • Salary
  • Diet
  • Hobbies

3. Decide what you are selling.

Maybe you’re selling a product or subscription. Based on your audience’s quiz answers, you’ll know what to promote to specific people.

4. Craft your quiz.

Now, for the meat and potatoes, how to craft your quiz. Follow the steps below (in order!):

  • 4A. Set your scoring/ outcome. The answers your audience receives are the score/outcome.
  • 4B. Craft your questions. Do this after you set your outcome! Design the questions to fit the outcomes.
  • 4C. Write your results. The results are the explanation of the outcome.
  • 4D. Create your follow-up messages. Ideally, automated emails sent after someone takes your quiz with their results and what you recommend they do. Continue the relationship with 5-6 emails after the initial follow-up. Be personal and connect. Don’t let them forget about you!

5. Set up your platform.

You will need a:

  • Landing page platform (don’t send people to your home page!)
  • Email platform
  • Quiz platform (The Quiz Queen, Tai, has reviewed over 15 different platforms. She recommends Interact Quiz Maker)

We are talking about flow. Having each of these platforms will allow a seamless experience for your audience and you.

6. Drive traffic to your quiz.

What are you during currently to drive traffic? If you’re struggling or need some ideas think about the following:

  • Get website viewers added to your list
  • Get social media followers to join
  • Reach out to people you’ve met offline to join
  • Drive traffic with content marketing
  • Use paid ads to drive traffic
  • Partner with colleagues/ peers to cross-promote

Now, let’s put it all together. Your flow will look something like this.

Drive Traffic → Online Quiz → Thank You Page → Email Welcome Message → Nurturing Campaign → Sales Conversation/Offer

3 Ways to Maximize Your Time on Pinterest – Recap

March 31, 2021 by Sarah Wohlner

The IFBC21 Social Media Virtual Summit took place on January 15, 2021. Our highest-rated session was with Pinterest expert Nadalie Bardo which received a score of 4.6/5. Read on to learn how to maximize your time on Pinterest. *This is a summary of her talk. You can view the full video session by registering now.*

Let’s get into it!

1. Switch to seasonal content and pin 45 days before the holiday starts!

  • Winter (December – February)
  • Spring (March-May)
  • Summer (June – August)
  • Fall (September – Novemeber)

In order to maximize your time, you need to plan ahead. This includes switching to seasonal content and having pins up before the season or holiday even starts. We all want trendy and relevant content, but how do we know what and when to post?

  • Check out the following resources:
    • Pinterest Trends
    • Pinterest 100
    • Pinterest Predicts
    • Google Trends
    • Analytics (Pinterest, Google, and Tailwind)

2. Fresh pins vs. Repins

Fresh pins don’t necessarily take more time. Nadalie recommends using a pin template and switching to video pins instead of repining old posts to new boards. Use Canva to change out the type and photos but keep the same content, then pin again.

  • How do you get more time to create new posts? STOP doing the following:
    • Repining to group boards
    • Worrying about repins
    • Wasting time in Facebook groups
    • Worry about tracking pins
    • Using Tailwind Smartloops
  • Now, what should you be doing? START with the following:
    • Pining mostly your pins
    • Designing multiple pins per post
    • Refreshing old pins
    • Making your pins “seasonal”
    • Testing and trying designs

3. Pining Intentionally vs Accidentally

Everyone debates scheduling pins vs manually pining, but it’s not about how you pin, it’s about why.

  • Figure out the following:
    • What time of the week is best to pin? (Check Google Analytics)
    • What time of the day is best to pin? (Check Google Analytics)
    • What is the best board to pin to? (Check Pinterest Analytics)
    • What is the best pin design? (Check Pinterest Business Hub)

5 Strategies to go Viral on TikTok

March 10, 2021 by Sarah Wohlner

The IFBC21 Social Media Virtual Summit took place on January 15, 2021. We had an excellent session with TikTok expert Sarah Wohlner. Read on to learn how to create a viral TikTok and get the views you deserve! *This is a summary of her talk. You can view the full video session by registering now.*

We all want to go viral, right?! You get more followers, more shares, more comments, more opportunities and it’s just more fun.

1. The Basics

While this might be boring or technical, it’s necessary to mention. To go viral consistently, you must have the basics down. I’m talking about the following:

  • Video quality
    • lighting
    • sound
    • background
    • video clarity
  • Specs
    • Orientation: Vertical is best.
    • Dimensions: 1080×1920
    • Aspect ratio: 9:16 is best
    • File type: .mp4 and .mov files
  • Length
    • Between 1 sec to 60 seconds
  • Be you!
    • That’s not so basic but it is the minimum you should be doing. There is no one like you!

2. A Hook

We all learned in grade school that your writing needs a good hook. Same thing here. Your video needs a hook. Think about all the other content out there and how easy it is for people to swipe right past your video. In the first 3 seconds, you need to capture the attention of your viewer. This could be something you say or something you show. Register for the full session for examples.

3. Be Controversial

I’m not talking about religion or politics, I’m talking *food* controversial. If you have a blog or social media, you probably know what I’m talking about. Some people get heated over food and they will let you know. This is great for you because this will result in more comments and therefore more engagement which tells TikTok they should push your video to more people.

  • Examples:
    • Saying something like “ranch is the worst sauce” or “white chocolate is the best chocolate.”
    • Or show a recipe where you over-seasoning or under-seasoning your food.

Check your blog and social media posts, I’m sure you have a recipe or two that’s already considered controversial. Use that to your advantage. Register for the full session for more examples.

4. TikTok Trends

There’s a whole page on TikTok dedicated to current viral trends. Check it out on a daily basis and if anything fits your content try to participate. Even if it doesn’t fit your specific content and you just want to participate, go for it!

5. Quantity or Quality

This probably sounds a little backward, but stay with me. I’m not saying sacrifice your quality, I’m saying quality is subjective. Don’t be so hard on yourself and critical. TikTok is different than other platforms. I would say, it’s more casual. People like seeing the real you. When in doubt, post. Just think to yourself, does it meet the following:

  • Is it…
    • … educational
    • … emotional
    • … entertaining
    • … engaging

Above all else, have fun! It will all be fine. What’s the worst that can happen? You post a video, no one sees it but you gain more knowledge and experience. That’s a win! Check me out on TikTok at @TasteandTraveler for some examples of how I implemented these strategies and tag me in your video so I can see what you’re up to. 🙂

Blog ‘Gram: Repurposing Blog Content to Instagram – Recap

March 3, 2021 by Sarah Wohlner

The IFBC21 Social Media Virtual Summit took place on January 15, 2021. We had an informative session with Instagram guru Tameka Bazile. Read on to learn how to create multiple pieces of IG content from one blog post creating fun, viral and engaging videos, static and live content around your blogs! *This is a summary of her talk. You can view the full video session by registering now.*

1. Are you ready for Instagram?

“The secret to growth + sales on Instagram is knowing how your brand should translate to the platform. This demands you create a following based on reciprocity, connection, and community.”

Instagram is a community-based app while blogs tend to be just you and your keyboard. Are you ready to come out from behind the keyboard? If yes, keep reading.

2. How to repurpose blog content

Toni from @boulderlocavore does an excellent job at turning blog posts into engaging IG posts and driving traffic.

You are busy! There is never enough time to create original content for each individual platform. Here is how can you repurpose blog content to make your life easier:

  • Step 1: Recognize content to repurpose
    • Take apart the blog post
      • Subtopics (why you created the recipe, how long it took to make the recipe, equipment, etc.)
      • Content pillars
      • Delivery
  • Step 2: Create content
    • Use templates
    • Share the same photos on your blog to Instagram
    • Turn your blog post into a video
  • Step 3: Post on IG
    • You don’t need to show up in every aspect of Instagram in order to be successful. Try focusing on two or three of the following:
      •  IGTV (1+ minute video)
      • Reels (15-30 second video)
      • Stories (learn how to engage your following on Stories from Jenny Melrose)
      • Main Feed

How to overcome your fear and get into YouTube already! – Recap

February 24, 2021 by Sarah Wohlner

For the IFBC21 Social Media Virtual Summit on January 15, 2021, we had an informative session with YouTube expert Lorena Graeter from Green Healthy Cooking. Read on to learn specifics recording techniques to get you started on YouTube. *This is a summary of her talk. You can view the full video session by registering now.*

1. No one cares about you

We mean this in the nicest way possible! They care about themselves and what they will get out of the video. No one notices the little things that you notice. Immediately after the video, viewers will go about their day while you spend the entire day stressing about something no one noticed. Don’t let that happen! Have some confidence!

2. Techniques for recording video

  • Look directly into the lens and imagine someone you trust sitting on a little chair in the back on the lense (don’t look at yourself on the side view)
  • Take the recipe step by step if you feel overwhelmed having to record the entire thing. You can stop and start as many times as you want and edit.
  • Film your videos where ever you have the best natural lighting, even if it’s not in the kitchen. Natural light is the best, much better than cheap lights.
  • Experiment with different videos to see what your audience wants. Are they looking for a short concise video or long stories about you and the recipe? Find out and stick to that.
  • If you write out a script, write it in a conversational tone. Include things like, “Yeah!” or “Yumm!”
  • 3 Second Rule: People get bored if they view the same things for longer than three seconds. You can show the same ingredient, but change up the angle.

3. Recommended equipment

  • External microphone
  • Camera
  • Recorder
  • Tripod
  • C Stand

4. “Your first video on YouTube should be horrible!”

If you’re already proud of your nice, well-filmed video, you started too late. You’ve missed six months of practicing in front of the camera. The more you practice the better.
